Every weekend, the decor goes up... and the party
starts.
The event called BassBath is
hosted in the Chinese cultural hub of Shanghai, and it brings together clubbers
who are both deaf and hearing.
Hu Jingqi: Todays event is amazing, I¡¯m so happy. It
was really crazy, the whole atmosphere was really great and it was really
bustling to the point that I forgot some of the physical discomforts I have in
my body, like sleepiness and tiredness.
Staff and clubbers communicate through Chinese sign
language, and if you don¡¯t know how, people are keen to teach you.
Ding Jiayue: We found that there are very few opportunities
for deaf and hearing people to make deep connections in society, so we hope
that an event like this will help people to see each other in the moment and
understand each other. This way, we can jump out of the ableism-centered
mindset.
