Ninety-nine percent of
women in India do not drink alcohol.
But Varsha Bat is a
rarity, twice ove since she enjoys drinking and brewing alcoholic beverages.
Varsha Bat: Like I
said, there¡¯s nothing like a woman can do... from recipe development, to
like the physical work to managing a team.
Varsha Bat is not
alone. Other women have found roles in the male-dominated beer industry.
Lynette Pires: Trying
to get your opinion across or trying to get them to listen to what you¡¯re
saying, and then knowing they take it a certain way—that took, the first time,
was a bit of a learning you know. And then you have to learn how to overcome
those and like move past it or deal with it and then control the room.
Drinking is often
frowned upon in India, especially among women. But the high-tech industry hub
of Bengaluru is known for having a more liberal drinking culture, as well as a
thriving craft beer scene.
