<µ¿¿µ»óº¸·¯°¡±â>

Description:

In a remote Indonesian village, teacher Abidin uses the Korean alphabet Hangul to transcribe and preserve the endangered Cia-Cia dialect, ensuring its survival for future generations.

Transcription:

These distinctive circles and lines makeup the Korean alphabet known as Hangul.

In a remote Indonesian village, it`s not being used to teach Korean.

Instead, it¡¯s to save an indigenous dialect used by around 80,000 people.

Teacher Abidin trained in Hangul for six months in South Korea.

Abidin: If we can write it down, the language can be documented. We will have writings to preserve it so that it can be learned from time to time. Had we only had the language verbally, we would totally lose it. Even now, there are already so many forgotten original Cia-Cia words.

More than 700 dialects spoken in Indonesia according to UNESCO.

Many do not have a written form, leaving them vulnerable to vanishing over time.

But Cia- Cia, with the help of Hangeul, will be saved for generations to come.
