A restaurant manager is being hailed as a hero for spotting what she said were
signs of child abuse. Flaviane Carvalho says a family ordered food at the
Mrs.Potato in Orlando, Florida but did not have a meal for the 11-year-old
customer.She noticed a bruise on the boy and created a sign that said
"Do you need help?" and held it up from an angle that his parents could not see.
When the boy nodded yes, Carvalho called 9-1-1 and the parents were later arrested.

Manager: I stepped in and asked if was something wrong with the order.
Reporter: A restaurant manager is being hailed as a hero for spotting what
she said were signs of child abuse. An 11 year old customer was sitting with
his family at the Mrs. Potato in Orlando Florida.
Manager: When the order came to the table.
I observed that the boy was denied food. The man told me that no,
that was everything okay and the boy was okay. And he was gonna have his
dinner at the night at home. This was super strange to me.
Reporter: She noticed a bruise on the boy and created this secret sign to ask
if he needed help.
Manager: showed him and he nodded his head yes and I could saw that he was
super quiet and sad.
Reporter: She called 911.
911 operator: 911
Manager: We have some customers here with two kids. One of the kids is with
a lot of bruises.
Reporter: Police arrested the stepfather and he was charged with
child abuse and the mother was charged with child neglect and failure to protect
the child. A trust account was created to support the children.

restaurant manager who police say did the right thing by seeing something
